The third week of auditions already, doesn’t time
fly when you’re having fun hey?! Back to ‘The Room’ we went for another batch
of the weird and wonderful.
Saturday night’s show began with something of an
anomaly this series, in fact you’d be forgiven for thinking the category was no
longer with us, a group! The montage began with 5 piece Kingsland, armed with
great hair, a guitar, some not too shabby vocals and a bit of thrusting they’re
sure to be a hit. The judges commented how it was refreshing to have a group
where every member appeared to be able to sing and they sailed through to the
arena. We have a great feeling about Kingsland.
We caught a brief glimpse of Brick City who
delivered a slick performance, almost too slick, however it was nice of Emeli
Sande to audition… that was her, wasn’t it?
Rough Copy are back! After being forced to leave
the competition for visa issues last year the trio were as confident as ever,
it could verge on cocky and annoying, in fact for us it does slightly. They’re
certainly a favourite with the judges though so off to the arena they went.
The groups montage ended with Ryan & Lydia,
fake tan a plenty and sickening delusional attitudes in tow saying they were
awful would be kind. Their audition screamed of desperation and thankfully the
judges weren’t swayed by their ‘charm’ (yes that was sarcasm) and after Sharon
questioned whether the whole thing was a joke Ryan & Lydia were sent
packing.
That’s looks like its it for our helping of groups this
year, well apart from one, but we’ll get to them…
16 year old Giles Potter managed to make being
young and signing a Jessie J song NOT annoying, quite the achievement. We can
sense the teenage girls already deciding on their ‘fandom’ name and changing
their twitter names to variations of ‘Mrs Potter’ Impending hysteria aside he
had a great voice and the right helping of confidence to ensure he grabbed
those important 4 yes’s and headed off to the arena.
The weird almost overshadowed the wonderful this
week with J-Koda, who dreams of sharing the stage and Kayne West and looked
like he was having a seizure to some dub-step. Then there was Harry Styles, no
sorry, Aron Dale, the One Direction star, no sorry, the wannabe lookalike who
made ‘What Makes You beautiful’ barely recognisable. Unsurprisingly they found
themselves receiving a chorus of no’s.
Then there was Souli Roots. She treated
us (not entirely sarcasm) to her self penned song about the recession, it had
us laughing, something the X Factor hasn’t served too much of this year, and we
actually quite liked her in an odd sort of way.
Stephanie Woods auditioned for the X Factor at
just 14 years old during Sharon’s first stint on the judging panel but she didn’t
make it through judges houses, older and wiser Stephanie returned to give it
another shot, instantly recognised by Sharon she began her rendition of ‘Run’,
its hard to top Leona when it comes to this song and she gave it a real good
shot. Mrs O was in a floods of tears, a rarity according to Nicole, and each of
the judged were blown away by her beautiful voice. It’ll be interesting to see
how she performs in the arena.
The tears continued, but this time it was Nicole having
to wipe them away. Three brothers, Next Of Kin sang a song they’d written with
their mum and had not only the judges but us at home transfixed, it was
professional and believable, a truly beautiful song. Reminding us slightly of
Rascal Flatts for some reason, we’re not sure why, but we loved them. Bring on
the arena! We want more!
I wonder if we’ve seen the winner yet?
