Awards
season is well and truly underway, but forget the Golden Globes and the SAG’s
because it’s National Television Award time!
If
you’ve voted, go you! (we hope you voted wisely) If you haven’t, don’t fret,
there’s still time, albeit not very much of it. Voting closes Wednesday 22nd
at 12pm and the results are reveal live the same night on ITV at 7.30pm.

Here’s
how WE voted.
Talent
Show
The
X Factor
Last
year Strictly got our vote (nothing to do with our crush on Louis Smith,
honest) but this year (technically last year) The X Factor upped it’s game and
won us back. The gimmicks were few and far between, the staged drama was almost
extinct and the real talent shone through. Definitely vote worthy.
Serial
Drama
Hollyoaks
A
wasted vote some of you may say, but alas it’s our favourite soap and we’re
sticking with it! Yes the ITV soaps have had a wonderful year and we wouldn’t
begrudge Emmerdale a cheeky win but our loyalty lays with the beautiful folks
of Channel 4. If you don’t have a favourite soap (aka serial drama) here’s our
reasons why you should give Hollyoaks a click. 1. The spectacular stunts. 2.
The breathtaking and truly underrated acting. 3. Ashley Taylor Dawson. Vote The
Oaks!
Comedy
Derek
We
were slightly torn here between Derek and The Big Bang Theory but then we
remembered even Sheldon Cooper couldn’t grip us like the beautifully written
Derek. Funny, heart-warming, honest, it’s so much more than just a comedy.
Drama
Broadchurch
Our
vote in this category was a little harder than most years (normally we just
close our eyes and click) as we spent a marathon week on Netflix catching up on
every episode of Downton Abbey just to see what all the fuss was about, we were
hooked within minutes. Then came along Broadchurch, easily the best piece of
telly 2013 treated us to. In the end Broadchurch bagged our vote, it had us
hooked from one episode to the next, sitting in our living room turning into
armchair detectives. Just brilliant.
TV
Detective
Olivia
Colman
Sorry
Suranne, normally it would have been you, we promise. Olivia Colman is lets
face it, bloody brilliant, although perhaps not actually the best TV detective
considering she was getting into bed with the murderer every night. We’re going
to overlook that though and give her our vote.
Drama
Performance
Maggie
Smith
No
brainer, we don’t watch Dr Who so it was obvious who was getting our vote.
Maggie Smith is the star of Downton Abbey, stealing every scene she graces with
her presence with just a single line or a subtle glance.
Factual
Entertainment
The
Great British Bake Off
For
once we actually love all the shows nominated in this category. For years we’ve
hated Top Gear (without having ever seen it) but the trusty Netflix opened our
eyes to it’s hilarity. An idiot Abroad is great, Karl Pilkington, is great, but
this series wasn’t as unmissible as the previous (we’re not saying that has
anything to do with Warwick Davis, honest). Paul O’Grady for the Love of Dogs
is loved by everyone in our house, especially the dogs but sometimes there’s
sad bits, we don’t like sad bits. Therefore GBBO got our vote, we hadn’t seen
any of the previous series’ we definitely missed out, soggy bottoms,
under-proved bread and Mary, it had it all.
Daytime
This
Morning
Another
no brainer here. We don’t mind a bit of Pointless but it doesn’t even come
close to This Morning, in fact it’s almost unfair they’re even in the same
category. For one This Morning
Newcomer
Anna
Passey
No
Hollyoaks bias from us here, it’s pure and simply down to the fact she’s
fantastic. Since joining Hollyoaks we’ve hated Sienna, loved her, pitied her
and cried for her. It’s about time someone on Hollyoaks were recognised for how
talented they really are. Vote Passey!
Serial
Drama Performance
Julie
Hesmondhalgh
If
Julie doesn’t win this it’ll be the equivalent of when that one with the face
didn’t win on that show with the presenter. We don’t even need to explain why.
Documentary
Educating
Yorkshire
This
quite simply gets our vote for the episode where Mr Burton helped Musharaf find
his voice. This documentary certainly deserves some recognition.
Entertainment
Presenter
Ant
& Dec
Yes,
we know they’ve won it every year since the birth of the baby Jesus but it’s a
fact that Ant & Dec should present every show on the telly, ever. Even
amongst the screaming celebrities they’re the stars of Im A Celeb and make
marathon Britain’s Got Talent shows bearable. Another award for their
collection can’t hurt.
Entertainment
Programme
Celebrity
Juice
It was neck and neck with I’m A Celeb for our vote
on this one but we decided Celebrity Juice made us laugh 0.4% more. Each week,
no matter who the guests might be you can guarantee you’ll be laughing along to
something crude and inappropriate. Perfect.
I would like to say I don't hate Top Gear :P
