Olympic Bronze medalist Tom Daley will be
returning to our screens this Saturday (4th January) ITV at 7.20pm
with a second series of Splash!
Hosted by Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay a whole new
batch of celebrities will compete against each other as they try and master the
art and skill of diving. The show sees the victims, sorry we mean willing
celebrities, trained by a team of professionals as they’re pushed to their
limits and face their fears. All hoping to emulate previous winner Eddie ‘the
eagle’ Edwards as they display their grace, skill, athleticism and accuracy
from the high board.
Each week they must perform live in the electric
atmosphere of a packed Olympic sized pool in front of the judges and voting
public at home. Team GB’s diving coach Andy Banks, Jo Brand and former Olympic
diving medalist Leon Taylor are all back in their seats on the judging panel
ready to credit and critique.
If you don’t now how it works each show the
celebrity who tops the leader board will go through to the semi-final whilst
the new two contestants face a Splash!-off with the winner of that also making
it through the semi-final. That simple.
The celebrities taking part may not be hailed as
hero’s by some of the general public however they have genuine admiration from
Tom “I massively admire their courage. They’re so incredible brave. Even if a
dive goes wrong, they want to do it again.” As well as Gabby, “They’re very
brave. They don’t come from a sporting background. Very few have had experience
of that level of adrenaline before”.
Heat One Celebrities
Gemma Merna – “I have a fear of going underwater.
I love swimming but I have never put my face in the water so I wanted to do
something that pushed me and made me get rid of the fear”
Perri Kiely – “It’s definitely harder than I
expect. I though I might have a bit of a head start with the flips but there is
so much technique involved. Its very difficult but I’m having so much fun.”
Gemma Collins – “I wanted to do it because so
many other there will be saying, ‘oh, she is just a big whale in the pool’ –
all the usual nonsense. But I’m a successful lady. I have just won a fashion
award. By appearing on Splash! I want to show that big girls are beautiful and
the you can diver whether you’re a size 8 or a size 20.”
Ricky Groves – “I’m 45 now, and I think that at
my age we can all get a bit lethargic and lazy. Acting is my trade, but it is
not the most physical of jobs. So when an opportunity arises like this to get
fit straight after Christmas, you don’t hesitate to say yes.”
Michaela Strachan – “I Like a challenge, and to
be offered the chance to be taught how to dive by an Olympic medalist is not
something I’m offered every day.”
