The X Factor - Arena Auditions (Three)

Saturday night gave us our penultimate dose of arena audition action and the girls were certainly out in force! We were mostly treated to a second helping of those we saw in the room audition, which is both brilliant and disappointing in equal measures. Here’s how we thought they did…

Chloe-Jasmine

Possibly the best pre-audition-contestant-at-home bit of filming there has ever been. After explaining to her parents (we assume that’s who they were) that she’d have to casually sing in front of 5000 people, she took some time out from experimenting with gluten free cooking to take to the arena stage. A bit more fabulous chatting with the judges ensued and then she began to sing. We loved her room audition but this was a million miles ahead, her voice was even more effortlessly bluesy and cool and was easily great enough to see her through to bootcamp.

Fleur East

This was our first glimpse of Fleur as her room audition was just casually overlooked; and it was quite a glimpse. Unlike any other act we’ve seen far this year, she doesn’t just have ‘the voice’ and ‘the look’ but she also has the little something extra, she’s got a performance in her and that’s exactly what she show’s been missing so far. We can’t wait to see what she does at bootcamp.

Raign

Raign’s arena performance was preceded by a VT of her demanding ways and diva tendencies, then there was a whole lot of talking – sigh. It’s as if they don’t want people to like her? Despite the less than subtle attempts of portraying her as the dislikable nutter we can’t help but really, really like her original song. There’s no denying Raign has talent. Off to bootcamp she went.

Emily Middlemass

We’re a bit of a sucker for a slowed down, stripped back, version of a well-known hit. It’s our kryptonite. So we were always going to enjoy Emily’s performance of Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’. It was original, authentic, and cute; it really showed off how talented she is. Another breezing through to bootcamp.

Stephanie Nala

We’d been waiting to get even a flash of Stephanie for a few weeks now, finally our wait was over. Having explained how she’s decided to go solo from The Luminites she performed her rendition of ‘Let me be your fantasy’ and it was effortlessly brilliant. Her voice has a vulnerability about it that instantly adds emotion to a song; we’re looking forward to hearing more.

Kerrianne Covell

Possibly one of our favourite auditions of the series so far! We thought Kerrianne was pretty great in her room audition but in the arena she took it to a whole new level of wow. It was a brave task picking a Carrie Underwood song to sing, not only does she have a bloody huge voice but also it’s a track not commonly known here in the UK. She managed to pull it off though with apparent ease and the anonymity of the song over here played in her favour, it sounded like she was performing her very own song. Brilliant.

Ben Haenow

Ben rounded off the show with what should be used in all classes as the perfect example of how to nail an audition. He was confident but not cocky, he was cheeky but not rude and he put in the perfect amount of emotion without turning into a narcissistic wreck. We sure do love a bit of Ben.
