It’s taken us a few days to come to terms with
the fact it’s all over, no more Dancing On Ice. What on earth are we going to
do with our Sunday evening now! It was the final, final, and what a final it
was. The three worthy finalists went head to head to head one last time, hoping
to skate their way to the title of ultimate champion.
WINNER
Ray & Maria
The Showcase
Finally! Ray Quinn took our wonderful advice from
a few weeks ago (yes we’re taking credit for it) and skated topless, not even a
string vest this time. Not only that but this showcase also treated us to
topless Sylvain AND topless Andy. Apparently there was a surfboard and some
skating too, which we’re sure was just great.
Favourite Routine
Passion, precision, perfection. Quite possibly one
of our favourite ever Dancing On ice routines, ever! Just as good, if not
better than the first time he and Maria skated this, technically brilliant,
choreographically mesmerising. A performance worthy of the final.
Bolero
It’s so hard to compare and judge any of the
finalist Bolero’s, they’re personal, they’re iconic, they’re exactly why we
loved this show. Ray & Maria gave it everything in there’s, it had the
perfect amount of iconic steps and personal interpretation.
2nd Place
Hayley & Dan
The Showcase
Sassy, sexy and sultry. No female pros in this
one, just Hayley and some male accessories, quite rightly this showcase was all
about her, and boy did she seem to enjoy it. There was plenty of solo skating
packed into this routine, point nicely proven. Beautifully controlled and
perfectly performed. It was like a mini West End show on ice.
Favourite Routine
Jai Ho. The ultimate Dancing On Ice routine. It’s
the one fans have been looking forward to see all series, and it was definitely
worth the wait. A routine that’s full of nostalgia and memories, precision and
perfection. Apparently there was a mistake in there somewhere that Robin
spotted but we, like Jason, were completely lost in the routine we didn’t even
notice.
Bolero
As we said (typed) a little further up, it’s so
hard to judge these Bolero’s. Much like Rays’ it had the perfect balance of
being true to the original and adding their own personality into it. The only
thing that set this apart from the other was Hayley and Dans’ connection, it
gave it that Torvill and Dean spark.
3rd Place
Beth & Lukasz
The Showcase
We loved everything about this routine. The theme
screamed fun and we definitely felt like we were part of the ‘Tweddle Tigers’. Beth
really showed how much she wanted this during the routine, putting everything
into every more. She really didn’t look out of place again the female pros from
start to finish which is possibly the highest compliment we could pay.
Favourite Routine
We admit, we were hoping to see her routine to ‘Clown’
again from last year, but I suppose we can’t have anything. We did however love
this routine the first time round and Beth continued to radiate enjoyment
throughout her second routine of the evening. Beth showed exactly why she is a
champion. She has fought for her place in the competition all the way,
improving each week and it showed during this final performance.
Such a shame they didn’t make an expecting during
this final final and allow us to enjoy all three finalists Bolero routines.
Fingers crossed we’ll get to enjoy Beth & Lukasz’ during the live tour.
And that’s that. Our last review, of the last
show, of the last series. It’s been a spectacular one, full of superb routines
week after week. In the end this right three made it to the final and I can’t
imagine anyone can find a plausible argument that Ray was the right winner. A
worthy ultimate champion! We can’t wait to see them all in person on the LIVE
TOUR!
A Huge thank you to all our DOI contributors from over the weeks!
