Semi-final week with added flying. What more
could we want? A time machine so we can go back to the start of the series and
re-live it all would be great, but we’ll have to settle to one more week of
final brilliance. Before we reach for the tissues as the realisation that it’s
almost over sinks in let’s take a look back at the weekend…
Sam & Vicky
Sam oozed confidence this week delivering a
vibrant and explosive performance. Some serious lifts and intricate footwork
beautifully executed in complete sync with Vicky, they never took their eyes
off each other. This pair show cased incredible partnering through those
complicated step sequences and we loved the axle catchers. There’s a huge
difference in the Sam that wowed us this weekend compared to the one that began
this series, he looks much more relaxed on and off the ice, which is no mean
feat considering how busy he is and he seems to have rediscovered a love for
skating which we think might have a little something to do with Vicky.

Hayley & Dan – Flying
Now it’s no secret we’ve never been a fan of this
flying element, let’s be honest it doesn’t have a great deal to do with skating
does it and naturally it’s going to suit some more than others regardless of
any skill or talent. That being said, we bloody loved this routine! Graceful,
elegant, delicate, believable and breath taking. That says it all.

Beth & lukasz
A lively and energetic performance from Beth who
genuinely looked like she was enjoying this one despite what Jason may say (his
obvious issue with Beth is getting a little boring now). The technical ability
she showed with the footwork and lifts yet again left us stunned, we can’t
understand why her marks don’t reflect the obvious skating talent she has.

Ray & Maria – Flying
Possibly the first time we haven’t been
captivated by a Ray performance, however it had more to do with the song and
the silly flying that it did Ray. The musica didn’t allow for any kind of story
or emotion and in the end it was just Ray looking wonderful spinning around in
the air. However there were a lot of transition from air to ice which on a
whole were smooth and clean and when his feet did touch the ice his ability was
unaffected. A shame he had to do it, but still a pretty accomplished routine.

Hayley & Dan
What a night for this duo! Not a bad time to step
it up another notch is it? A lively and energetic routine jam packed with lifts
and intricate footwork. Each step was bang on beat, each movement choreographed
perfectly in time. It had a little bit of everything, performance, skating and
those infamous jazz hands. If they’re this good on limited rehearsal maybe they
should just turn up to the final on Sunday and wing it?

Sam & Vicky – Flying
Really disappointed this didn’t get higher marks,
we loved it. Despite the obvious issues with physical differences standing in
their way they used what could have been a weakness to their advantage and
delivered a great routine. Sam and Vicky had a wonderful connection throughout
the routine which made it a joy to watch and it seemed as though they had many
more air to ice transitions than some of the other, all executed smoothly. It
was more than just a novel flying routine, it actually contained some skating!
A powerful yet controlled performance.

Ray & Maria
A graceful
and gentle performance yet still executed with incredible speed across the ice.
Ray and Maria are so fluid together to the point where it’s almost impossible
to tell which one is the pro skater. Exquisite skating and beautiful lines from
a charismatic Ray. Maria looked absolutely beautiful. It was a subtle and
understated routine where everything seemed underrated and elegant which just
goes to show how great Ray is, we can just relax and enjoy his effortless
talent.

Beth & Lukasz – Flying
The first half of the routine seemed a little
repetitive with Beth just literally flying around, although beautifully, but
when the second half kicked in they really were able to show off. The connection that this pair had was magical in that
routine. That big swooping drag at the end was definitely a wow moment. The
softer skates definitely suit Beth better. Her gymnastics background ensure
beautiful lines, extensions and posture flowed through the air. Another great
routine.

We never expect to see Ray in the skate-off at
any point, in fact I think in the past we’ve joked it was a good idea they
performed their ‘save me’ routine in the past or we’d have never got to see it.
With such great skaters left it was always going to be tough to call and we
were always going to lose a favourite. That being said we’re very sad to see
Sam and Vicky leave, their connection brought and extra dimension to the ice
and his love for the show was lovely to see. Fingers crossed they can arrange
something and we get to see this duo live on tour!
Now, bring on the FINAL!
