‘I’ve
really had enough of watching girls fight it out to become models’.... said
no-one, ever. That’s probably why Sky Living treated fans to a second opening
episode of Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model. How lucky are we?
Episode
one was all about getting to the final 14 and was a great introduction to
feisty new judge Dannii Minogue. Episode two however throws the girls right
into the model game as they are given a 4am wake-up call for the first official
challenge. Bleary eyed and without a clue, the girls head to Birmingham NEC’s
Annual Wedding show to be greeted by supermodel Jade Parfitt and bridal dress
designer Ian Stewart
Before
the girls can become the ‘strong, beautiful, couture’ brides that Ian requires,
they are put through their paces on the catwalk with Jade Parfitt to separate
the brides from bridesmaids. Emma is told to bring out her ‘inner-bitch’ and
Sarah loses her nerve, but the girl’s power on without a wobble or, luckily, a
fall whilst every aspect of their walk is being judged. Angel, in particular,
stands out with her confident walk. Something that did not go unnoticed by the
other girls.
Despite
managing to stay on their feet, the girls get the wind knocked out of them when
it is revealed that there are only 9 bride places available, leaving 5 girls as
just bridesmaids. A sharp reminder that this is a competition after-all!
Lauren, Emily, Angel, Laura, Naomi, Christina, Saffron, Holly and Sophie are
chosen to be brides, leaving the remaining five gutted as they are told to work
on their confidence. I sense a recurring theme here, don’t you agree?
An evaluation of the
dresses throws a spanner in the works. A switch is made between the brides and
the bridesmaids. With Emma being promoted up to bride status and Naomi being
demoted to bridesmaid. Naomi takes it in her stride and after a pep talk from
Jade Parfitt seems pretty comfortable with the switch.
It’s obvious who has the
stronger walks when they’re put out on the catwalk, Lauren’s opening walk is
pretty flawless and definitely the standout for me.
But, challenge winners are announced
straight after and it’s the split personality Angel who wins, along with Naomi
the bridesmaid as a runner up. Just goes to show that anything is possible!Abigail seems to be using her hair as a defence, even after it’s scraped back from her face she still plays with it and looks like she knows that she’s beautiful. I’m definitely more for the underdog.
Challenge number two is straight in at the deep end with a cover shoot for Company magazine. Foreshadowing the winning prize, the girls get to meet the editor, Victoria White and get an individual cover shot. Lauren looked like an absolute pro while up on set, something which didn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the girls. She looked as if she’d been doing this for years and is so Company. Angel performed with ease and Emma suits the look perfectly. Following suit from the previous challenges, Sarah’s nerves seem to override the shoot although she manages to hold back tears. After seeing her barefaced in episode one, it seems that the less makeup she has to hide behind, the better.
In a switch up this
year, the girls get to see their final shot before going in with the judges.
The would be Company covers are lined up in the green room for the girls to
deliberate over themselves. They then head into the judging panel, who have
already discussed their favourites. The bottom four remain in the room to see
their catwalks, behind the scenes at the shoot and their final shot.
Christina & Danielle
are the bottom two. They weren’t particularly standout for me through the
challenges; both seemed to blend into the crowd. Christina was the standout for
her bubbly personality that was distracting from the Company shoot, but neither
did anything standout wrong.
But, in the end, it
looks like Christina’s personality turned the judges off and she was sent home.
She missed out on the best bit, with next week being the makeover episode. My
favourite! And definitely where people’s real characters began to come out!
We’ll see you then!
Did you agree with the judge’s decision to wave goodbye to Christina? Let us know!
